‘Donate Your Own Device’ collects 32,000 devices to support underprivileged students worldwide, promote sustainability
حملة "تبرّع بجهازك" تجمع 32 ألف جهاز لدعم الطلاب الأقل حظاً في العالم وتعزيز جهود إعادة التدوير
The Digital School, one of the Mohammed bin Rashid Global Initiatives, announced that the “Donate Your Own Device” campaign, which was launched in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), under the theme “Donate to Educate”, managed to collect more than 32,000 used electronic devices, which will be refurbished and recycled, to support underprivileged students of the Digital School worldwide with devices that support their digital education journey.
The announcement of the campaign’s achievements came in line with “Global Recycling Day”, on March 18th, which highlights the importance of this global initiative and its multiple humanitarian, educational, and environmental goals, reflecting the leading role of the UAE in achieving the UNSDGs, preserving the environment through recycling, and providing access to education for students around the world.
Electronic devices included 36 percent computers, tablets and smartphones, 30 percent other electronic devices such as screens, printers and projectors, and 34 percent electronic devices accessories, which are refurbished or recycled in an environmentally safe manner and pursuant the best practices to reduce e-waste, which accounts for around 70 percent of toxic waste.
Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, Minister of State for Artificial Intelligence, Digital Economy, and Remote Work Applications and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Digital School, stated that the success of the campaign and the vast contributions reflect the value of “giving” inherent in the UAE society, their awareness of the importance of humanitarian initiatives, and their keenness to promote sustainability. He commended the great interaction that the campaign has witnessed since its launch, and the fruitful partnerships with government and private sector entities and academic institutions towards this achievement.
Al Olama stressed that the Digital School believes in promoting solutions for enabling digital education, which is the future of education and provides learning opportunities for underprivileged students worldwide through digital learning applications. He further noted that the “Donate Your Own Device” campaign reflects this vision through an innovative humanitarian and environmental initiative that goes in line pace with the UAE’s directives in the Year of Sustainability and reflects the leadership’s visions towards promoting international cooperation to achieve the UN sustainable development goals; environmental sustainability and access to education.
Rashid Al Mansouri, Secretary-General of the ERC, pinpointed that the “Donate Your Own Device” campaign supports the goals of the Digital School programmes that were launched in the UAE to provide innovative educational solutions to countries facing challenges in this vital sector. It provides students with accessibility to advanced digital education content, encourages them to learn, acquire knowledge and overcome challenges, in addition to enriching the e-content and supporting better education, which is the main path towards achieving development and laying the foundations of stability, progress and prosperity.
Al Mansouri hailed the vast response to the campaign from all sectors in the UAE, exceeding the campaign’s objectives over a short period of time. He reiterated the Red Crescent’s commitment to its strategic partnership with the Digital School to enhance smart education opportunities in less privileged countries and communities, stressing that the ERC spares no effort to help achieve the goals of the Digital School and cover more beneficiaries regionally and globally.
Dr. Waleed Al-Ali the Secretary-General of The Digital School, said: “The campaign represents an innovative partnership for education and sustainability”, he pointed out that the campaign serves as a global model for overcoming the challenges associated with digital education.
Youssef Chehade, co-founder of eCyclex, one of the Digital School’s partners in the “Donate Your Own Device” campaign, stated, “With the challenges of climate change, not only the environment is affected, but also communities especially in rural areas, due to floods, fires, drought and other causes. One of the most empowering solutions is to support education in less connected areas to enable students build a better future for their families and communities.”
“The initiative leverages technology to achieve all these strategic goals, from education to improving society and protecting the environment from e-waste, locally and globally,” Chehade added.
The Digital School announced the extension of the “Donate Your Own Device” campaign to continue receiving contributions and donations, in an effort to expand the circle of beneficiaries from the advanced learning solutions it will provide to underprivileged students.
The “Donate Your Own Device” campaign witnessed effective interaction from more than 85 government and private sector entities, academic institutions, and community members, including: Dubai Police, the American University of Sharjah (AUJ), the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU), Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Digital Dubai, Emirates Airlines, the Ministry of Health and Prevention, Dubai World, Etihad Water and Electricity, Dubai Community Development Authority (CDA), Dubai Customs, Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation, Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA), Dubai Culture, Masdar, Emirates NBD, Dubai Municipality, among others.
The “Donate Your Own Device” campaign aimed to provide 10,000 used electronic devices to be refurbished and recycled after collecting them from individual and institutional donors, in an educational, humanitarian and environmental initiative that supports the educational process for less privileged Digital School students worldwide.
The Digital School receives used electronic devices or financial donations from community members and government and private sector entities through the official donation channels it runs in cooperation with the Emirates Red Crescent, including the campaign website https://www.donateyourowndevice.org or by sending an SMS to 2441 for Etisalat users or 3551 for Du users.
The initiative contributes to developing innovative and sustainable solutions to support the Digital School projects by refurbishing old devices and using them to develop future education solutions. It further pinpoints its eco-friendly practices, as it supports environmental sustainability by reducing e-waste. Participating institutions are granted a green contribution certificate in sustainability and recycling from “e-Cyclex” and “Reloop”.
The “Digital School”, which was launched by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, in November 2020 as part of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), is a first-of-its-kind integrated Digital School that aims to empower students with digital learning options in underserved areas. It also provides a quality option for hybrid and distance learning using smart and flexible methodologies. The Digital School targets less privileged societies, refugees and displaced persons, using modern educational materials and curricula.
The Digital School adopts a comprehensive approach to digital transformation in education, based on providing educational opportunities through digital learning options, especially in remote and developing areas which lack appropriate learning conditions. The Digital School has more than 160,000 beneficiary students and provides its services in more than 13 countries, namely: Jordan, Egypt, Iraq, Mauritania, Lebanon, Colombia, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Angola, Namibia, Lesotho, Zambia, and Madagascar. It has trained more than 2,500 digital teachers and provides educational and training content in four languages: Arabic, English, French, and Spanish.
كشفت المدرسة الرقمية إحدى مبادرات محمد بن راشد العالمية، أن حملة “تبرع بجهازك”، التي أطلقتها بالتعاون مع هيئة الهلال الأحمر الاماراتي، تحت شعار “تبرع لتُعلّم”، تمكنت من جمع أكثر من 32 ألف مساهمة متنوعة من الأجهزة الإلكترونية المستعملة، التي سيتم تجدديها أو إعادة تدويرها سعيا لتزويد طلبة المدرسة الرقمية الأقل حظا حول العالم بأجهزة تدعم مسيرتهم في التعليم الرقمي.
وجاء الإعلان عن إنجازات الحملة، بالتزامن مع “اليوم العالمي لإعادة التدوير” الذي يصادف 18 مارس من كل عام، ما يبرز أهمية هذه المبادرة العالمية الرائدة وأهدافها المتعددة ذات الأبعاد الإنسانية والتعليمية والبيئية ما يعكس الدور الريادي لدولة الإمارات في مجالات تحقيق أهداف التنمية المستدامة والحفاظ على البيئة وإعادة التدوير، وتوفير فرص الوصول إلى التعليم للطلاب في مختلف أنحاء العالم.
وتوزعت المساهمات بالأجهزة الإلكترونية على 36% أجهزة حاسوبية مثل أجهزة الكمبيوتر والأجهزة اللوحية والهواتف الذكية، و30% من أجهزة إلكترونية أخرى من مثل الشاشات والطابعات وأجهزة العرض وغيرها، و34% من ملحقات الأجهزة الإلكترونية والإكسسوارات، التي يتم تجديدها أو إعادة تدوريها بشكل آمن بيئيا ووفقا لأفضل الممارسات بما يسهم في تقليل النفايات الإلكترونية التي تشكل نحو 70% من النفايات السامة.
وأكد معالي عمر سلطان العلماء وزير دولة للذكاء الاصطناعي والاقتصاد الرقمي وتطبيقات العمل عن بعد، رئيس مجلس إدارة المدرسة الرقمية، أن نجاح الحملة والتفاعل الكبير معها، يعكس قيمة العطاء المتأصلة في مجتمع الإمارات ووعيه بأهمية المبادرات الإنسانية وحرصه على تعزيز ممارسات الاستدامة، مشيداً بالتفاعل الكبير والتجاوب الواسع الذي شهدته الحملة منذ إطلاقها، وبالشراكات الفاعلة مع الجهات الحكومية والمؤسسات الخاصة والأكاديمية في تحقيق هذا الإنجاز.
وقال معاليه إن المدرسة الرقمية تؤمن بأهمية تعزيز حلول التعليم الرقمي الذي يمثل تعليم المستقبل، والذي يوفر فرص التعلم للطلاب الأقل حظاً في العالم، من خلال تطبيقات التعلم الرقمي، مشيراً إلى أن حملة “تبرع بجهازك” تعكس هذه الرؤية من خلال مبادرة مبتكرة في العمل الإنساني والبيئي، تواكب توجهات دولة الإمارات في عام الاستدامة، وتترجم رؤى القيادة بمحورية تعزيز التعاون الدولي لتحقيق الأهداف العالمية للتنمية المستدامة التي تشمل استدامة البيئة وضمان الوصول إلى التعليم.
من جانبه، أكد سعادة راشد مبارك المنصوري الأمين العام المكلف لهيئة الهلال الأحمر الإماراتي، أن حملة “تبرع لتعلم” تمضي قدما لتعزيز أهداف برامج المدرسة الرقمية التي انطلقت من الإمارات، لتوفير حلول تعليمية مبتكرة في الدول التي تواجه تحديات في هذا القطاع الحيوي، من خلال إتاحة الفرصة للطلاب للوصول إلى المحتوى التعليمي الرقمي المتقدم، وتشجيعهم على التعلم والتحصيل المعرفي وتخطي التحديات، إلى جانب إثراء المحتوى الالكتروني ودعم التعليم النوعي الذي يعتبر المدخل الرئيسي لتحقيق التنمية والأساس لاستقرار المجتمعات وتقدمها وازدهارها.
وأشاد المنصوري بالتجاوب الكبير الذي وجدته الحملة من جميع القطاعات في الدولة، ما كان له أكبر الأثر في تجاوز أهداف الحملة في زمن وجيز، وجدد ترحيب هيئة الهلال الأحمر بشراكتها الاستراتيجية مع المدرسة الرقمية “إحدى مبادرات محمد بن راشد العالمية” لتعزيز فرص التعليم الذكي بطرق متقدمة ومرنة في الدول والمجتمعات الأقل حظاً، مؤكداً أن الهيئة لن تدخر وسعاً في سبيل تحقيق أهداف المدرسة الرقمية وتوسيع مظلة المستفيدين من مبادراتها النوعية إقليمياً ودولياً.
وقال يوسف شحادة شريك مؤسس في “إي سايكلكس” أحد شركاء المدرسة الرقمية في حملة تبرع بجهازك: “مع تحديات تغير المناخ، لا تتأثر البيئة فحسب، بل تتأثر المجتمعات، خاصة في المناطق الريفية، بسبب الفيضانات والحرائق والجفاف وأسباب مختلفة، أحد الجوانب الأكثر تمكينًا هو دعم التعليم في المناطق الأقل اتصالاً، لتمكين الطلاب من بناء مستقبل أفضل لمجتمعاتهم وأحبائهم”.
وأضاف شحادة أن مبادرة “تبرع بجهازك” توظف التكنولوجيا لتحقيق كل هذه الأهداف الاستراتيجية، من التعليم إلى تحسين المجتمع وحماية البيئة من مخاطر النفايات الإلكترونية محليا وعالميا.
من جانبه ، قال الدكتور وليد آل علي الأمين العام للمدرسة الرقمية إن الحملة تترجم فكر الاستدامة والابتكار في نشر التعليم والحفاظ على البيئة، وتقدم نموذجا عالميا في الابتكار لمواجهة تحديات التعليم الرقمي، مشيراً إلى أن الحملة مثال للشراكات المبتكرة لتوفير فرص الوصول إلى التعليم للطلاب في كل مكان في العالم، ودعم جهود تحقيق الاستدامة البيئية، وتمكين المجتمعات من إعداد الأجيال القادمة بالعلم والمعرفة الضرورية لصناعة المستقبل.
وأعلنت المدرسة الرقمية تمديد حملة “تبرع بجهازك” ومواصلة استقبال المساهمات، لإتاحة الفرصة لمزيد من المشاركات والتبرعات والمساهمات في مسعى لتوسيع دائرة المستفيدين من الطلاب الأقل حظاً حول العالم مما ستوفره لهم من حلول التعلم المتقدمة.
وحظيت حملة “تبرع بجهازك” بتفاعل كبير من الجهات الحكومية والخاصة والمؤسسات الأكاديمية وأفراد المجتمع، شمل أكثر من 80 مؤسسة، وضمت قائمة أبرز الجهات المساهمة في الحملة كلا من؛ شرطة دبي، الجامعة الامريكية في الشارقة، جامعة الامارات العربية المتحدة، هيئه الطرق والمواصلات بدبي، دبي الرقمية، طيران الامارات، وزارة الصحة ووقاية المجتمع، دبي العالمية، الاتحاد للماء والكهرباء، هيئة تنمية المجتمع بدبي، جمارك دبي، مؤسسة محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم للمعرفة، هيئة كهرباء ومياه دبي، هيئة دبي للثقافة، مصدر، بنك الإمارات دبي الوطني، بلدية دبي، وغيرها من الجهات والشركات والمؤسسات.
– تعليم رقمي داعم للاستدامة..
وهدفت حملة “تبرع بجهازك” إلى توفير 10 آلاف جهاز الكتروني مستعمل ليتم تجديدها وإعادة تدويرها بعد جمعها من المتبرعين من الأفراد والمؤسسات، في مبادرة تعليمية وإنسانية وبيئية تهدف لدعم العملية التعليمية لطلبة المدرسة الرقمية الأقل حظا حول العالم.
وتتلقى المدرسة الرقمية مساهمات أفراد المجتمع والجهات الحكومية والخاصة من الأجهزة الإلكترونية المستعملة، أو التبرعات المالية، عبر قنوات التبرع الرسمية التي تديرها بالتعاون مع الهلال الأحمر الإماراتي، التي تشمل موقع الحملة https://www.donateyourowndevice.org أو إرسال رسالة نصية قصيرة (SMS) إلى 2441 لمستخدمي اتصالات او 3551 لمستخدمي دو.
وجاء إطلاق الحملة ضمن المبادرات الداعمة لتحقيق أهداف عام الاستدامة في دولة الإمارات، وتعمل المدرسة الرقمية على جمع الأجهزة الإلكترونية المستعملة من الأفراد والمؤسسات وإعادة تجديدها وفق أفضل الممارسات بالشراكة مع مؤسسات متخصصة، لتوفير أدوات التعلم الرقمي للطلاب.
وتساهم المبادرة في تطوير حلول مبتكرة ومستدامة لدعم توجهات المدرسة الرقمية ومشاريعها، من خلال تجديد الأجهزة القديمة وتوظيفها لخدمة تطوير حلول التعليم المستقبلي، إضافة إلى اهتمامها بالجانب البيئي، إذ تدعم تحقيق الاستدامة البيئية، من خلال تقليل النفايات الإلكترونية، ويتم منح المؤسسات المشاركة شهادة مساهمة خضراء في الاستدامة وإعادة التدوير من “إي سايكلكس” و”ريلوب” العالمية.
يذكر، أن “المدرسة الرقمية”، التي أطلقها صاحب السمو الشيخ محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم نائب رئيس الدولة رئيس مجلس الوزراء حاكم دبي “رعاه الله”، في نوفمبر 2020 ضمن مؤسسة مبادرات محمد بن راشد آل مكتوم العالمية، تعد أول مدرسة رقمية متكاملة من نوعها، وتهدف إلى تمكين الطلاب بخيارات التعلم الرقمي في المناطق التي لا تتوفر فيها الظروف الملائمة أو المقومات التي يحتاجها الطلاب لمتابعة تعليمهم، كما توفر خياراً نوعياً للتعلم المدمج و التعلم عن بُعد، بطريقة ذكية ومرنة، مستهدفة الفئات المجتمعية الأقل حظا واللاجئين والنازحين، عبر مواد ومناهج تعليمية عصرية.
وتتبنى المدرسة الرقمية نهجًا شاملاً للتحول الرقمي في التعليم، يقوم على توسيع الفرص التعليمية عبر خيارات التعلم الرقمي خاصة في المناطق النائية والنامية التي لا تتوفر فيها الظروف الملائمة للتعلم، وتواصل المدرسة الرقمية توسعها، حيث ضمت أكثر من 160 ألف طالب مستفيد وتقدم خدماتها في أكثر من 13 دولة هي الأردن، ومصر، والعراق، وموريتانيا، ولبنان، وكولومبيا، وبنغلاديش، وأفغانستان، وأنغولا، وناميبيا، وليسوتو، وزامبيا، ومدغشقر. وعملت على تدريب أكثر من 2500 معلم رقمي، فيما يتم توفير المحتوى التعليمي والتدريبي بأربع لغات هي العربية والإنجليزية والفرنسية والإسبانية.
